Corcovado; Peninsula de Osa

The short dry season started. A few deciduous trees are losing their leaves and carpeting our trails. The rain falls sporadically and yet we had a chance to experience a short shower during our walks. We heard it hit the lush vegetation, but we did not see a drop reach the ground. Epiphytes are exposed to heavy sun radiation that may deplete them of water. The many layers of the forest struggle to store the few drops of the precious liquid. Today we felt an intensive forest and its elements: Decaying litter, high humidity, short rainfall, heavy sun, heat: the rainforest. Monkeys and parrots are among the wide variety of species that allowed us to watch them.

After a long walk, we took the Zodiacs back to the ship, repositioned and disembarked for our beach bar-b-q, followed by horseback riding, hiking or relaxing at the beach. We finished the day swimming in the fresh water river after our Zodiac cruise.
