Bartolomé Island
An optional early wake-up call took us to the summit of the very eroded tip of the volcano of Bartolomé Island. Once we reached the top, we were just astonished by the fabulous view we enjoyed from up there. Santa Cruz Island, the two Daphne’s, Santiago and many surrounding islets were observed. A colorful array of forms and textures of lava flows and cones made the view even more dramatic.
Once back on board and after a well-deserved breakfast, we started getting ready for the next adventure. Our second morning outing started at about ten and included a trip to a golden beach where we snorkeled with lots of colorful tropical fish in clear warm waters and some of us climbed up the beach dunes to see another beach behind the first one where sea turtles nest. Bartolomé Island is a little treasure box; it has a lot of wonders to offer.
The afternoon’s easy stroll along the shores of Santiago Island was marked by the company of big marine iguanas, lots and lots of cute tiny lava lizards all over, shore birds, and pelicans. Sally light foot crabs added more action to our afternoon highlights.
Snorkelers enjoyed their last dip in the Galápagos archipelago sharing the water with sea turtles, white tipped sharks and more.
This was definitely one of the finest weeks we have had.
So long friends and come back soon to visit us again!
