Fernandina can be called one of the crown jewels in the Galapagos. It has the largest colony of marine iguanas in the archipelago and today our favorite island did not disappoint us!
As we walked through the lava flows of the youngest island in the Galapagos, we observed hundreds of these black reptiles as they bathed under the equatorial sun. Sea lions, lava lizards, and Galapagos hawks are only a few of the species that can be observed in this little paradise called Fernandina.
In the afternoon we had an extraordinary Zodiac ride at Punta Vicente Roca where we saw fur sea lions for the first time! We also encountered countless sea turtles and flightless cormorants, species that can only be found in the Galapagos.
