Our first day of this expedition and what a jam-packed day it was! Up with the sun to see and photograph the myriad of creatures in these head waters of the mighty Amazon River! Our morning was spent exploring the Yanayacu River by skiff. The amount of wildlife here in the upper Amazon Basin simply defies description. Reptiles, birds, amphibians, and mammals all showed themselves, much to our delight and photographic opportunities!
Our afternoon was spent on Nauta Caño, a small creek that winds itself around the beautiful rain forest and again gave us an opportunity to see wildlife up close and personal. We are entering low water season, and the animals are concentrated along the banks of this creek as it shrinks daily in width and depth, further concentrating the wildlife. What a glorious time to be here!
