We started the first full day of our expedition visiting Clavero Lake, a huge blackwater oxbow lake. As soon as we arrived at the entrance, we spotted several birds and many pink and gray river dolphins. After riding further in, we explored a small shallow creek where we spotted more rainforest bird species and a couple of three-toed sloths.
In the afternoon we explored the Supay River. For many of us the highlight of this outing was a torrential tropical rain that fell on our way back to the ship — reminding us that we are visiting one of the wettest regions of our planet. It was a damp but golden finale for our first full day of exploration of the Peruvian Upper Amazon.
