Our last full day of our expedition in the remote Peruvian Upper Amazon was filled with several activities and choices that made this day a very special one.
Early in the morning we had a pre-breakfast exploration of Zapote Caño by skiffs or kayaks. We had many rewards for from the very beginning we spotted many bird species, a caiman lizard, and we enjoyed the intrinsic beauty of the peacefulness of the surroundings. A couple of fishermen showed us their catch. Avidly we took some pictures of a couple of immense catfish they proudly showed to us.
Soon after all of us were aboard we started a long journey navigating towards our next destination for the afternoon activities, Iricahua Caño. Just before lunch we learned how to fix Pisco sours, which have become the most famous and traditional Peruvian drink. Our guests showed their skills shaking the drink behind the bar. It was a lot of fun!
This morning and for the past few days we have had overcast skies. During lunch the sun came out and the sky above us became blue except for a few pure white clouds.
Late in the afternoon, at around 4:00 p.m., we explored Iricahua Caño by skiffs. This paradisiacal stream is covered with thick vegetation with many huge trees all around that allowed us to have several animal sightings. Some colorful bird species like macaws and toucans were seen as well as a couple of monkey troops. We even had some more pink river dolphins that caught our attention late in the evening when coming back to the ship.
The rain came back while we were outside exploring the stream. Weather conditions change so much within a day in these realms. It was hard to imagine that we spent the first days of this expedition with very hot and sunny days.
Once aboard we enjoyed the guests’ pictures slideshow of the week, a great barbeque, and the happiness expressed in the lively music the Delfin II crewmembers played for us. The latter was a golden finale to a lifetime experience in the immense and inspiring Amazonia.
