We’ve had an amazing week in the Galapagos Islands. Today we are visiting the last destination in our expedition, an island located on the easternmost point of the archipelago called San Cristobal.
This is an old island with a human settlement on the southern side. This settlement is called Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and it is the administrative capital of this province. San Cristobal has amazing landscapes and an incredible collection of wildlife.
Our destination for the morning was Punta Pitt. Here, we had a wet landing on a golden sandy beach with charming sea lions, marine iguanas, and many types of sea birds flying and foraging in shallow waters. Shortly after landing we started a long hike to explore an old volcano with stunning views of the surrounding slopes and the blue ocean in front of us. Along the walk we admired the geology of this part of the island and the vegetation that has colonized this otherwise barren terrain.
The landscape on the shore of San Cristobal is magnificent. On this part of the island we also have small islets that harbor a number of sea birds. In fact more than ten species of birds can be in front of your eyes at any time! These tiny islets are the nesting site for most of the sea birds in this area. Other attractions are the playful and endearing Galapagos sea lions on the beach. These marine mammals are always an unforgettable part of the expedition.
