We have been exploring the wonders of the Sea of Cortez and the little island jewels sprinkled amongst the salty waters. Today however, we delved into a cultural treasure chest for an introduction to the rich history of Baja California. Todos Santos was our destination, a somewhat sleepy town on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. It has been adopted more recently by artisans looking for the tranquility of an intimate village atmosphere and leisurely pace of life. We met local guides who escorted our explorations through town to the cathedral, a cultural museum, and a few of the gallery shops. After that we meandered independently without care to direction or agenda. Café Santa Fe hosted our lunch in an extended patio dining area. A cool breeze kept us comfortable as we dined in the shade of the palm-thatched roof. The patio garden was festooned with the brilliant blossoms of bougainvillea in a multitude of colors.

Upon our return to the city of La Paz, we continued to embrace our leisurely attitude and walked along the waterfront while we enjoyed a sampling of the local ice cream. Just before sunset, a group of local musicians came on board and strummed guitars while singing softly as a parfait-colored sunset brought closure to our day of town visits.
