Our journey today took us to the island of Santa Cruz, where the largest human settlement is found. With a population of approximately 20,000 people, this area is the heart of tourism on the islands and the hometown of many of our staff and naturalists.
After disembarkation, the buses drove us to the entrance of the National Park Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre. Guests learned more about what is being done to protect and breed this iconic species of the archipelago. Later in the morning, our expedition took us to the Trapiche Ecologico, where we learned how to make moonshine and organic coffee. For sure, this stop was one of the highlights of the day!
A delicious lunch was served at the Manzanillo Ranch. After relaxing for a bit, the naturalists took guests to find giant tortoises in their natural habitat! We found them in all sizes all over the place!
