Through the night, National Geographic Venture made her way southward, along the Pacific side of the Baja Peninsula. At midday, she shifted east to enter “La Entrada,” the opening between the barrier islands of Santa Margarita and Magdalena. Here we would have the opportunity to visit Sand Dollar Beach—one of the very best on the western hemisphere!

What qualities makes this area so charming? The answer comes in the form of big, beautiful barchan sand dunes! Piled at great heights these dunes, the seemingly endless expanse of this shifting, rippled sandscape is absolutely mesmerizing, and even better for those who came out with cameras. Perhaps better still is the sensation of bringing one’s feet through the warm fine-grain sand. It is a feeling in which people somehow feel ageless. The inner-child is brought out while we skip, dance, and relish the magic of this moment.
