Today we went to learn about the indigenous people of the Peruvian amazon. At 7:30 am we disembarked from our ship to visit a very small village in the heart of the jungle; it was a great experience to see how these local people live, how they survive and make the life possible here; and also our visit is just to support their education through “Minga Perú “which is a program supported by Lindblad-National Geographic to help women and men in their leadership of their community, and to share knowledge with them about how to be more efficient in their economic activities. Once there we went into a local house to learn the hour by hour day in their activities; these people live in poor-basic conditions but happy and safe, they do not expect much about matter subjects and they base their surviving onto fishing, agriculture, aviculture, etc.
Then our guests participated of Minga Peru and hear about how the program work and how they are helping and giving some benefits to the place we visit. Then in the afternoon we motored to Clavero Lake at the foot of the Ucayali river; it is little town in the area, at the entrance of the lake many pink dolphins were getting some fish while at the river banks hundreds of herons, terns, plovers and other migratory birds were resting; neo-tropical cormorants were flying up in the sky. We went into several creeks in search of monkeys, eagles, tanagers etc. here at the jungle animals just show-up, it is very un-expectable; you get at the beginning a general idea of what you are going to see, but, at the end the story is just incredible, it is a vast area hosting millions of animals and plants, called the emerald world!
In our way back to our ship the lake was very calmed as a mirror, the wind ceased, and the orange sun was coming down on the horizon, while in the opposite direction of the sphere the drizzle was falling on the town, drawing in the background a beautiful rainbow. What a spectacular breathtaking scenario to end a wonderful day at the Upper Amazon.
