Christian Saa
Christian was born on the island of Isabela in the Galápagos archipelago. He grew up on a farm and had a magical childhood devoid of cars, electricity, telephones—just pure nature and playful sea lions along the beach. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Santa Cruz Island, the economic hub of the Galápagos Islands. His father began to work in tourism and took Christian around the islands during school vacations. It was during this time that Christian learned to love and understand the real value of this unique archipelago, and he decided to devote his life to its stewardship. A lifelong passion for nature and its creatures took root in his heart, and he eventually decided to become a naturalist, which he has now been doing for 18 years now.
He has been working as an expedition leader around Peru and Ecuador for several years in concert with his other activities. Besides the natural world and Galápagos, Christian’s other great passion is music and entertainment. When not out in the islands, he works as a TV producer and in a recording studio he owns in the town of Puerto Ayora. His studio produces two TV magazines, one for a local TV channel and another on Ecuador TV. He has recorded two albums, writing and composing his own music, and he also plays several musical instruments. His third album is currently in production.
He received his Photo Instructor certification in a multi-day training workshop. Developed and taught by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions photographers, the workshop helped him develop additional insight and skills necessary to help you better understand your camera and the basics of composition — to better capture the moments at the heart of your expedition.
