We sailed in the evening, from Santorini to the beautiful island of Milos, arriving at the impressive caldera of the island the next day, July the 30th, around noon. After lunch we took a tender to the port of Adamas where the buses awaited for our short drive to the town of Plaka. Enjoying the superb view from the courtyard of the church of Mary of the Seas, we talked about the rich history of the island and of the town. Below us was a ruined theater, near which the “Venus de Milos” statue was discovered in 1820, after centuries of being buried and forgotten (now in the Louvre). The church shared her treasures with us, the mystifying atmosphere, the lit candles, the beautiful icons.

After enjoying some free time to taste the Greek pastries and coffee at the local cafes, we continued our tour with the drive through the countryside to the unique beach of Palaiohori, with its deep blue crystal clear waters and impressive rock formations, for a swim to refresh our bodies and souls in the “wine dark” sea of Homer.

Time goes by very quickly when you have a great time, and it was then time to drive back to the port. Our wonderful ship was waiting for us and we got ready for our–as always–amazing dinner. Tomorrow we look forward to sail to Nauplion for the visits of Mycenae and Epidaurus, to travel again through time!
