Today we are visiting the furthest point of the Pacaya Samiria reserve. This land is vast, it gets flooded at this time of the year and lures large numbers of fish eating birds such as: egrets, herons, cormorants and terns just to mention a few. This time of the year is called the High Water Season and this is when fish get out of the streams and rivers to forage and spawn in the flooded forest. As fish reach the forest so do predators, this morning we had such a great sighting of thousands of birds in a feeding frenzy.

After breakfast we started to explore the Pacaya River and its surrounding forest. The vegetation in this area is exuberant and harbors a collection of animals such as monkeys, parrots, hawks and egrets. Right now bird life is vibrant due to fish spawning in the forest. Birds are distributed all across this great greenery. This area is very productive in terms of fisheries and you can see from fishing bids to raptors.

In the afternoon we explored further the reserve for more landscape and birdlife. The weather has been good and it allows us to see more creatures, some of them on the ground such as herons and some others crowd the trees like monkeys and raptors. This was our opportunity for the Amazon Plunge! Here we had the opportunity to swim in a black water pond surrounded by enormous trees, moments later as we swam we had a pod of river dolphins around us. This encounter made our visit even more special!
