Isla San Francisco
We have played amongst sand dunes, beaches and in the fish-filled waters of Baja California with an intensity these last few days that at times has defied description. In the spirit of that lighthearted attitude, our discoveries and antics of today will be summarized in a series of stanzas, which almost rhyme.
While oyster catchers called,
I sat on the edge of the sea,
They inspired me to pen and paper,
An attempt at poetry.
Eroding cliffs of red rock
Tumbled silent into the turquoise bay
A protective arc of shoreline
Became our playground for the day.
With a silky lethal woven web
She caught bobitos - tiny flies,
The sexy red and yellow spider
The one with eight beady-black eyes.
Copulating megafauna – we’ve been looking for all week!
Two black beetles delicately balance
Can be just as challenged to the feat.
Rocking, rolling and three wheeling
Sam and Lindsey made it to the top!
Finley sat at the edge of the precipice
And contentedly chewed on Baja’s rocks.
Short-spined urchins - echinoderms
Sat camouflaged in stones,
They gave a low tide illusion,
That really, no one’s home.
Diving into chilly waters,
Paddling with hands and flippered feet,
To gawk at wide-eyed fishies,
And decide if copepods are good to eat.
S’mores, a fire, guitar and songs
In the starless desert night,
A Zodiac ride home to the Sea Bird
by dinoflagellates sparkling lights.
