The photo shows pitar lupanaria, with the tell-tale drill hole of a predatory snail, resting on the beach on Isla Magdalena. We found several of these bizarre-looking venus clams while walking along Sand Dollar Beach this morning -- those peaceful hours sandwiched between an early morning watching gray whales and an afternoon kayaking among the mangroves.
