Bartolome Island

Merry Christmas to everyone! We wish you the best from the Galápagos Islands! It is nice for me, to come back on board and visit the islands and see how beautiful they are. Our guests enjoy Galápagos to the fullest as well, playing with sea lion and penguins, watching albatrosses and blue-footed boobies, surrounded by amazing landscapes. The water temperature has been so pleasant, that people would to stay in forever. This week we also had some very young guests on board who had a lot of fun and at the same time they have learned about the natural history of this archipelago.

What caught my attention today was to find a group of brown pelicans nesting. It was nice to observe the way that these animals work building up their nests, transporting the nesting material in those giant bills. The nests were accumulations of various size twigs. The males brought them to the females and they accommodated them in the right places to build the nests.

Some of the pelicans were already seating on the eggs. These birds lay three eggs during the season, most of the time three of them hatch, but not all of them survive, it depends on how good is the year and also how good their parents are finding fish.

In the afternoon we also enjoyed snorkeling with sea lions and rays. After snorkeling we had a beautiful last walk along the seashore and exploring the inter-tidal zone, where we took our last pictures of marine iguanas and baby sea lions.
