Floreana Island

Early in the morning we started our day with an optional wake up call by disembarking on the post office bay; a mail swapping system which took place somewhere in the seventeen hundreds and still continues working as a tradition today.

Soon after we reposition and after our breakfast we started our deep water snorkeling at Champion Island; this site has an impressive ecosystem as you go around with the current which are around the 60 degrees Fahrenheit, many nutrients around while fishes, sea lions, and many underwater creatures graze on this.

After an impressive Ecuadorian lunch and a short nap we had the choice to go to the beach or kayaks around the bay at cormorants point. Soon after we all gather at the beach to start our walk for our greater flamingo.

This was an impressive day with garúa in the morning and a sunset in the afternoon.

On our walk we had the opportunity to make some friends like Merrill Mack one of our guests onboard Polaris. Personally I feel like an ambassador to my country-- I love the opportunity to share with pride this wonderful place which belongs to human kind, and I'm fortunate to share it with people like him. In Merrill's own words:

“The trip has been and continues to be amazing. The sights, sounds, and colors are incredible. The naturalist guides are knowledgeable and love their subject, and they make us love it as well. The marine life in the Galápagos is so different from anything we have in Massachusetts. And the guides make sure we get to see everything as close a possible in its natural habitat. Our activities range from hiking, to kayaking, to snorkeling, to relaxing. Today we had our normal complement of frolicking sea lions. There’s nothing like snorkeling with sea lions playing alongside you. And tomorrow we’ve been promised snorkeling fun with penguins! A highlight today was seeing flamingoes in a secluded lagoon. We counted 34 of them. Each morning I wake up wondering how the previous day can be exceeded, and each day it is.”

Well, there is no need to add more, these are his own words from his heart, thank you Merrill!

My dear readers, our expedition continues and we have plenty more surprises as we are headed to the land of volcanoes, the western part of the archipelago.
