Kythnos

This day was completely devoted to relaxing beach and water activities. We anchored in a beautiful bay on the west side of Kythnos Island – one of the northwestern-most Cycladic islands. In the morning we listen to a short talk given by our Greek guides Ellie and Stella about ancient pottery. That was a start for all kids to create their own pottery design working together with their teammates. After a little bit of “work” everyone was ready to just jump off the ship into the clear dark-blue water to get some refreshment. The biggest fun was of course jumping off the railing! After some “practice jumps” we organized a jumping contest for all kids in three categories: the biggest splash, the smallest splash and the most creative jump. What I liked the most was an idea of Kate trying to be a “supergirl” and jumping with a towel as her wings.

In the afternoon we took everyone to the nearby sandy beach. Actually, it was a long sandbar connecting a small island to land, which is called tombolo. So we had two beaches at once! That was a perfect site for the next contests in our “Panoramics” games. First our kid teams had to uncover an artifact hidden in a few broken pieces at an “archeological site” on the beach and rebuild it. Just after that we had a very emotional kayak and swimming race following by javelin and discus throwing. Even goats of the island were watching us and our games from the nearest hill. The sun was strong, so after the games we were very happy to have the option of two beaches where we could find quick refreshment in the water just few meters away.

Late afternoon, tired after snorkeling, swimming and kayaking, we returned to the ship to enjoy a drink out on deck in the beautiful surroundings of the bay, followed by another delicious Greek dinner.
