Bay of Panama, Otoque, Bona & Iguana Island
Would it be a cliché if I say what a wonderful day we just had? It may sound repetitive, but I cannot find any other way to describe the day we just had.
Our navigation after crossing the Panama Canal was just as smooth as it can get and, in no time, we anchored off the shores of a wonderful group of islands known as Otoque and Bona.
Our activities started shortly after breakfast when Zodiac cruises departed to the Island of Bona, where an incredible array of sea birds live and nest; it is thanks to the trade winds blowing the warm-surface waters that upwelling occurs, attracting many species of sea birds from all over.
Large colonies of frigate birds had established here, developing a co-evolutionary behavioral system with brown and blue footed boobies – or any other kind of sea birds for that matter – as their main activity is to steal the food from other sea bird species.
It was not only the Zodiac cruise but the nearby beach at Otoque Island that was enjoyed fully by every one of our guests who wanted to spend some time swimming or simply relaxing.
Although it took us five hours of navigation to arrive to our next destination, it was worth doing it, as we enjoyed a Nature Reserve ecosystem known as Isla Iguana.
The clarity of the water was perfect for the first snorkeling experience for our guests, and walks were organized to enjoy the large colonies of sea birds on the other side of the island.
The sunset was something to remember, as we left the island looking for a new adventure in this wonderful country of Panama.
