Bartolomé & Santiago Islands
We started our day with an early walk on Bartolomé Island. This was a great experience on one of the most amazing landscapes in the entire archipelago. As we explored the island we had a nice gentle breeze on our faces all the time. Here, we could see lava flows, volcanic ash, pioneer plants and so many other things.
Bartolomé Island is a dream place for the geologist and the natural historian in the way that you can find all the features of a lava flow ant the arrival and establishment of organisms in the harsh new lava flows. But that’s not all this island has, there is much more to see. Besides stunning landscapes here we have a marvelous snorkeling site with many species of tropical fish.
In the late morning we explored the undersea world being able to swim with many colorful fish such as parrot fish, yellow tailed razor fish, sharks and large schools of small fish to mention a few. But, personally, I think the real highlight of the place was swimming with penguins!
After all these treats we returned to the ship for lunch and later on we headed to Santiago Island. At around 3:30 we disembarked at Puerto Egas for a walk along the shore. Here at Puerto Egas we found ourselves walking along a shoreline full of wildlife of all kinds such as sea lions, marine iguanas, sea birds, and a Galápagos hawk! There was so much to see everywhere and on every rock of the shore.
It was just another day in paradise!
