Isabela & Fernandina Islands
One of the best days of this week in paradise was the one we spent at the Western edge of the Galápagos archipelago. The realm of the young volcanoes, the last volcanic eruptions have been happening here on Isabela and Fernandina Islands, the very last emission of lava was recorded on the 16th of April 2009. We were lucky enough to enjoy two weeks of lava springs jumping up in the air offering us a fabulous fireworks like show.
Today the highlights were many. We crossed the Equator line with a significant ceremony where our naturalists and Expedition Leader organized a cute little celebration to make this a memorable moment.
Later in the morning a charming zodiac ride along the shores of the caldera of Volcano Ecuador showed us all the creatures that live around the area. Unique flightless cormorants, endemic Galápagos penguins, sea turtles in the water, brown noddies, blue footed boobies, and more accompanied our boat ride.
Snorkeling with sea turtles was another magnificent experience.
The afternoon stroll in Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island was full of excitement. Flightless cormorants, penguins, sea lions, big marine iguanas, sally light foot crabs and Galápagos hawks made this afternoon another unforgettable experience.
