Today was an amazing day of adventure in Southeast Alaska. The day started with dense fog enshrouding National Geographic Sea Bird. As the fog lifted, we headed out for our first activities of the day. We anchored between Fox Creek and the Shaw Islands. From here, we sent our landing craft in both directions, to hike and kayak.
Fox Creek is a real Alaskan forest walk where we can experience the real wilderness. All the trails started out as bear trails, and bears are still using them. There are small salmon streams in the forest, and plant diversity is a real example of the temperate rain forest.
For the afternoon, we cruised around the Inian Islands. One of our favorite places for marine wildlife. This special space, located right at Cross Sound, is a real aquatic Serengeti. Steller sea lions, sea otters, eagles, falcons, and even a minke whale were seen today!
