Alberto Montaudon
Alberto fell in love with nature as a young child. Born and raised in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, he spent most of his childhood exploring the Chairlel Lagoon and the Tamesi River. Each morning he would patiently wait in his rowboat for sunrise to witness the great groups of migrating birds that would land on the water. His father taught him from a very early age to understand, love, and respect nature. As a result of his upbringing, Alberto became biologist and decided to follow his passion and became a naturalist. At age 21, Alberto began working with Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic in Baja California. Since then he has been sharing interests that range from bird biology to undersea exploration to wildlife photography with thousands of guests.
Alberto has lived for long periods of time in the Caribbean’s Yucatan Peninsula, the cloud forest of the highlands of Veracruz, and the temperate rain forest of Haines, Alaska. Today Alberto lives in the state of Colima, in Mexico. Alberto and his wife own a small farm where they keep horses, practice aquaculture, sustainable agriculture, raise chickens and ducks, and produce a good amount of their own food. At the farm, one of the many projects is to rescue ancestral varieties of corn and continue the tradition of planting and selecting valuable varieties that are in danger of extinction. One of Alberto’s core ambitions is to preserve the pre-Columbian agro-ecosystem known as Milpa. One of the hobbies that Alberto and his wife enjoy is paragliding. Their love for nature, for flight, and for birds is fulfilled as they soar on paragliders climbing rising thermals with vultures, hawks, storks, and other flying companions.
Alberto received his Photo Instructor certification in a multi-day training workshop. Developed and taught by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions photographers, the workshop helped him develop additional insight and skills necessary to help you better understand your camera and the basics of composition—to better capture the moments at the heart of your expedition.
