We made an expeditious and efficient voyage through the Drake Passage, with calm seas allowing us to push forward at around 15 knots. It was an exciting moment when we heard the expedition leader, Jonathan, announce that land was in sight. And what a historical piece of land. Cape Horn on Tierra Del Fuego, the southernmost headland in the world.
Many sailors perished in these waters trying to “round the horn,” and nearly 800 shipwrecks have been documented in the area.
The weather felt drastically different having crossed the Antarctic Convergence. The air was not so crisp, and the stinging cold was absent. A pleasant perk for us because of all the wildlife there was to see from the outer decks.
