Today our first activity took place before breakfast with a hike to the top of Bartolome Island. This hike included about four hundred wooden steps all the way to the top. Along the way we learn about the geology and history of Bartolome Island.
The island, despite its very small size, provides our guests with many options to enjoy. The geological features of the twin golden beaches and the famous pinnacle rock make this location unique. There are also a wide variety of marine creatures and, what many consider, one of the best locations to enjoy water activities in the Archipelago.
It was time to lift anchor and move towards our next destination, Rabida Island. This Island is named after the convent where Christopher Columbus left his son when he sat sail to discover America.
As soon as we dropped anchor small groups were sent off for a kayaking in order to continue exploring one of the largest marine reserves on our planet.
Everyone who participated in the kayaking came back onboard very happy and they could not believe all of the special moments they were encountering in the Galapagos. No matter how many books you’ve read about the Galapagos or how many movies you’ve seen about the islands, it will never prepare you for this extraordinary experience.
To take full advantage of our full day in this Archipelago, we disembarked on a beautiful, red sandy beach with Galapagos sea lions resting, nursing and playing among themselves.
Every day we mark the sightings of animals in Galapagos and so far it has been plentiful with our list of sightings of endemic and native species growing and growing.
