Two days of sailing south across the Drake Passage to Antarctica under very mild conditions would be rewarded upon making first sight of the South Shetland Islands. Their rugged beauty, punctuated by jagged islets and ice-capped peaks, mark the end of our pilgrimage south and the beginning of our adventures in Antarctica. The main character in our introduction to the Antarctic would be the stately and handsome chinstrap penguins who call these fabled islands home. Welcome to Antarctica!
