The Amazon is a region where the variety of species amazes the world day after day; and today we had a taste of that by exploring Zapote River and Supay Caño. Our Amazon exploration began early with a splendid skiff ride up Zapote River. The magnificence of the place was shown in many different manners: birds singing all around us, cormorants fishing, and three-toed sloths climbing up the trees.
Farther into the river, it was time to enjoy a delightful breakfast right in the middle of the forest. While eating, Mother Nature displayed a show of birds flying over us several times. On our way back, we stopped at a little village in order to experience the culture of the place. A lot of children of different ages came up to us, while their mothers showed us their artisan products.
Once we started on our way back to Delfin II, the biggest surprise was found in a tree, as a three-toed sloth was seen in a very clear spot, and a little close to the water. This made it the prefect photography moment for everybody. Farther down the river, three green iguanas were found taking advantage of the morning sun as they were close to the water’s edge. Once we back on board Delfin II, it was time to begin navigation in order to get to our next destination.
Exploration in the afternoon was superb in Supay Caño. A skiff ride was the best way to begin the adventure, and the manner nature was found along the riverside made was perfect. At the beginning of our exploration, we had a little surprise inside a tree: a yellow crowned brush-tail rat. Farther up the river the calling of different birds lent the feel of a natural sanctuary. At the end of the expedition, we sensed what the Amazon rain forest is all about as we had a heavy rainy moment inside the forest. This experience couldn’t get better in the Amazon’s living paradise.
