Today our expedition in the Peruvian Upper Amazon took us to two remote locations of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve: Yanalpa Caño in the morning and El Dorado River in the afternoon.
We disembarked in direction to Yanalpa Caño very early, at around 5:45am we were on the skiffs already. It was well worth it to wake up early; we were fortunate to have several great wildlife sightings. We found a long list of bird species, including parrots, macaws and birds of prey. We observed a couple of monkey troops as well.
In the late afternoon after kayaking, we had plenty of time to go far and beyond El Dorado River. We experienced firsthand the extraordinary biodiversity that inhabits the rainforests. Our skilled naturalists spotted several bird species like wattled jacanas, yellow-billed terns, some birds of prey, several three-toed sloths and some red howler monkeys as well. As the day was getting dark, we experienced a night ride from the comfort and safety of our skiffs. With the help of powerful spotlights, we found several cayman alligators.
