Despite a less than optimal forecast, we awoke to clear skies as we approached George Island in Cross Sound. After breakfast we explored George Island by foot, paddleboard, and kayak. Many guests explored the trail out to the World War II cannon that was installed to protect Alaska’s inland passage. After hiking, we explored tide pools on the rocky beach and investigated Granite Bay from the water.
Following a torrential thunderstorm at lunch, Zodiac tours resumed and we ventured around the Inian Islands which featured sea otters, eagles, humpback whales, and hundreds of stellar sea lions.
Right before dinner our captain slowed the ship and we were treated to several breaching humpback whales. After dinner our Global Explorers learned about animal adaptations by comparing the insulative properties of feathers, fur, and blubber.
