With the day’s first light our skiffs departed to explore the banks of the Ucayali River. As the sun rose above the clouds the forest came to life, full of the sounds of many birds waking to fly above the canopy and across the river.
Soon after breakfast we left for a hike in the flooded forest. This is a unique opportunity—during this time of year the river is quite low and the usually-flooded land lies exposed, making it possible for us to hike on firm earth.
In the late afternoon we explored the Dorado River in search of wildlife, hoping to encounter some unique lifeforms, such as caymans resting along the river banks.
