Today, we continued our exploration of the atolls in the Tuamotus. We are interested in learning more about the biodiversity of the reefs underwater and the culture of the local people ashore. We began at Toau with a snorkeling opportunity among the towering coral heads of the reef. We spotted dozens of reef sharks swimming gracefully along the shallows and hundreds of brilliantly colored boring clams burrowed into the reef. Later in the day, we landed on Fakarava, where some guests rode bikes along the shores to the community church. Others joined National Geographic photographer Krista Rossow and photo instructor Alex Krowiak for a guided photo walk through the community to learn about storytelling and engaging with locals to create powerful images. Along the way, we also learned about the weaving, pearl farming, canoeing, and sailing that are so central to the people here.
