We docked in Hood River and traveled by bus to Multnomah Falls. The waterfall, over 600 feet tall, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Oregon. It is a beautiful location and we were able to learn more about the local forest and geology of the region. We followed the falls with a visit to Bonneville Fish Hatchery. At the hatchery we saw coho salmon that were making their way upriver and even visited an 80 year-old sturgeon named Herman.
After lunch on the ship, we headed to the Columbia Gorge Museum where we learned more about the complex history of the region. As it was a breathtaking and unusually warm October day, we spent some of our time outside the museum enjoying the nice weather.
To finish off the day we traveled through the Bonneville lock at sunset – our last lock and a beautiful experience to remember.
