Today we started our day with a pre-breakfast walk to Espumilla Beach on Santiago Island. We had a great exercise walk along a cindery trail. This is a beautiful region like no other with a dense forest of button mangrove and giant Palo Santo trees, and from here we observed some land birds such as small beak ground finches, Galapagos mockingbirds, and the top predator in the islands, the Galapagos hawk. Also, the landscape is quite impressive as we climbed to the top of a cinder cone, and from there saw the volcanoes of Isabela Island.
After our walk we returned aboard to have breakfast, and right after we finished our morning meal we began water activities such as several rides on our glass-bottom boat, kayak outings, and deep water snorkeling. This was the perfect morning for those activities as the water was clear and the day was nice, warm, and sunny.
At the end of the morning we returned aboard and headed towards Puerto Egas. Here we landed in the afternoon and went snorkeling for a second time from a black sandy beach. Here on Puerto Egas we encountered Galapagos sea lions, Galapagos marine iguanas, and in addition to these we also found Galapagos fur seals. This place also has a small colony of blue-footed boobies nesting in an isolated area of Puerto Egas which can be seen from far and seems to be doing great.
Late in the afternoon we left Puerto Egas behind with a very colorful sunset to end a great day in Galapagos.
