Today our exploration began early, and the best way to get started was with a spectacular pre-breakfast skiff ride into Marañòn River. At the beginning of the exploration we found many different kinds of birds in the grassy plants around us. Yellow-hooded blackbirds, red-chested blackbirds, and great kiskadees were some of the attractions in the morning.
We returned to Delfin II to find a delightful breakfast waiting for us. As soon as we finished, we got everything ready for the next part of the Amazon adventure. San Jorge became our next destination, and the presence of local people upon arrival made it perfect for a delightful visit. During our stay in San Jorge, we had the opportunity to learn about the everyday living of the communities that are found throughout the Amazon. The most pleasant highlight was the meeting with the school children that received us with native songs, and a show about the crafts native hunters have.
As soon as our visit was over, we sailed for the next adventure of the day. Delfin II brought us to the point where the Amazon River begins as we started making our way into the Ucayali River. In the afternoon the adventure only got better, beginning with a skiff ride up Yarapa Caño. At the beginning of the exploration we saw yellow-rumped caciques that were guarding their nest in the trees. Farther up the stream, a scarlet macaw that was found on the top of a very old tree displayed a symphony of colors. At the end of our journey, we enjoyed the presence of pink dolphins that were swimming right by the skiffs. Today the Amazon marvels were awe-inspiring.
