The day began in the early hours of the morning as National Geographic Resolution turned the corner from the Beagle Channel and began the voyage across the infamous Drake. The ship’s bridge crew faced the challenge of tackling 5-meter swells, a test that they welcomed.
Throughout the day the expedition crew heightened our excitement to reach the Peninsula; they delivered lectures on seabirds, photography, and an overview of the White Continent and what to expect as we got nearer.
As we sat down for an amazing meal prepared by our kitchen crew, we were blessed with a sighting of a light-mantled sooty albatross; it soared past the restaurant windows, forcing everyone to trade their cutlery for cameras.
