Today on Isla Magdalena, we visited the remote fishing community of Puerto Magdalena and then we went exploring in nature.
Living on an island in the desert comes with specific needs; their desalination plant provides fresh water to the resident families.
After traversing the area either on foot or pedaling a fat-tire bike, we enjoyed refreshing beverages at a local open-air cantina. Some of us hiked through the desert habitat and were rewarded with beautiful views of the Pacific. Strolling at sea level along the beach was fascinating and fun, as there were countless treasures tossed up by the tides. There were many kinds of bivalve shells, snails, fish skins, bird bones, and even portions of sea turtle shells. A couple of gray whale skeletons were on display above the beach and each one was topped by an enormous osprey nest.
