Today we explored Santa Cruz Island. We started our morning by visiting the Charles Darwin Foundation, where we saw baby giant tortoises in captivity. It was amazing to observe the little ones next to the oldest ones as they wait to be repatriated to their home. In addition, we explored the area and learned about many projects working to ensure the conservation of the islands.
Next, we headed to the highlands to explore the giant tortoises’ natural habitat. As we enjoyed lunch at Manzanillo Ranch, we were surrounded by the tortoises. Afterwards, we returned to Puerto Ayora to continue exploring the culture of this remote island.
During our evening on board, a group of local artisans visited, and local musicians performed. It was a spectacular day on National Geographic Endeavour II.
