Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980, the fortifications on the Caribbean side of Panama located in the town of Portobelo. Being here reminds us of stories about Spanish treasures, British privateers, pirates and the rise and fall of European empires in the New World. But most importantly, it provides insight into the legacy of its people, and how they tell their stories of oppression and emancipation.
