Today Sea Cloud II brought us to Portoferraio, the largest town and the main port on the island of Elba. The island of Elba is most famous for being the site of Napoleon Bonaparte's first exile, after his abdication in 1814. He chose Elba for its resemblance to his native island of Corsica, as well as Elba’s strategic proximity to France.
In the morning, our guests went on a walking tour of Portoferraio, with a stop in Napoleon’s residence. In the afternoon, some guests visited Forte Falcone accompanied by Expedition Leader and Historian David Brotherson, while others relaxed on Ghiaie Beach.

Each day is a new chapter in a timeless story, where history and nature coalesce in breathtaking harmony. The Amalfi Coast, with its rugged cliffs plunging into azure waters, offered a sensory feast starting in the early hours. From the deck, while stretching in the company of Natalia ( Sea Cloud II’ s Wellness Specialist), we enjoyed the coastline’s beauty. Some people took photographs, while others used their imagination to perceive the scent of lemon groves mingling with the salty sea breeze, all mixed with the visual splendor of pastel-colored villages clinging to steep hillsides. After an amazing breakfast, as usual, our onshore excursions took us into deeper exploration. We visited St. Andrew’s Cathedral, meandered through the narrow alleys of Amalfi, and tasted the pastries of the famous Pasticceria Pansa. This pastry has a sweet history, since 1830, in one of the most beautiful and evocative squares in the world. Lindblad’s commitment to sustainable travel ensured that our exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage Site was both enriching and respectful. Knowledgeable local guides enhanced our experience, revealing the secrets of the Amalfi Coast’s vibrant culture and history. Once back on board, we had the traditional pasta wheel for lunch and afterwards, enjoyed once more the sailing operation. The crew hit the rig and off we went, sailing into the Gulf of Naples.
Sailing the Tyrrhenian Sea on the beautiful Sea Cloud II with fellow passengers is an unparalleled maritime adventure. We awoke to crisp morning air and the gentle rocking of the boat, having set sail last night from the picturesque harbor of Elba Island. During the morning, our crew set up the sails for us to enjoy a quiet and easy journey as we glided through the waves. Today is a full day of sailing and getting to know Sea Cloud II in depth. We toured the bridge and the engine room and attended a couple of presentations in our beautiful lounge by our expert naturalists and cultural specialists. In the afternoon, we had a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a very refreshing swim in the Mediterranean waters. The serenity of the open sea creates a harmonious blend of relaxation and adventure. Sailing is a transformative experience that leaves lasting memories and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the joy of human connection.
