The Pacaya River is one of the most magical places to visit in the Amazon, and today we had a prodigious opportunity to experience its wonders. The exploration began early in the morning with a magnificent skiff ride upriver. It did not take long for nature to show its marvels as an impressive flock of neo-tropical cormorants passed right above us. Bird callings were heard all over the place, and making a perfect contrast, the presence of cocoi herons in the trees completed the awe-inspiring moment.
For breakfast this morning we ate aboard the skiffs tied in the middle of the jungle with nothing but the Amazon’s wildlife around us. Once finished, we prepared to search for one of the most iconic birds that have ever existed: the Hoatzin. We found several individuals perching on a few trees up the river, and as they cannot fly long, it was easy to spot them perching on the branches and twigs all around the area.
We soon returned to the Delfin II in order to get everything ready for the afternoon exploration. The Amazon had a different feel in the afternoon, and the best way to explore was to travel deep into the forest to go swimming in the river.
The presence of pink dolphins inspired us during an incredible swimming moment. On our way back to Delfin II, the presence of squirrel monkeys, white fronted capuchin monkeys, and howler monkeys was something that will be hard to forget. At the end of exploration, we enjoyed a magical sunset that made the perfect photo op. Today was a magical experience that will be in our memories forever.
