We woke up this morning surrounded by a light, dewy mist amidst the high mountains of Nordfjord. The atmosphere was mystical and the staff set out to offer a variety of activities, including Zodiac cruises, bushwhacking, beach strolling, as well as kayaking in the calm and blue water of the fjord.
As we get out of the water we find the galley team already on shore collecting mussels for dinner and the birthday boy Teddy rodfishing from a Zodiac. Wildlife around us is quite abundant, with oyster catchers in the air and harbour seals in the water, but the highlight of the day was yet to happen. Right after lunch we offered a one way Zodiac cruise from the end of the fjord to a waterfall. Putting our full force of Zodiacs in the water, guests were zoomed around, close by the steep and reaching rock walls. We were soon overtaken by the National Geographic Orion passing by to show us the way. At our arrival, we had the biggest of surprises, look at the photo to believe!
With great bravery and care, Captain Martin turned the ship in, putting the bow directly under the mass of falling water. Guests felt the full force of the mountain flood, as tons of water splashed about – bathing those daring to get close. Still the day was not over! As we crossed the Arctic Circle our expedition team and restaurant crew has organized a fantastic champagne party at the little town of Træna. We were warmly welcomed by the locals who invite us to visit the church and museum, together with a sightseeing around town leading to a viewpoint over the islands. And for those eager enough to stay late into the night, the sun bore down into the sky for the first sunset of our entire voyage - a spectacular ending to a full and vibrant day.
