Our morning at beautiful Monkey River was much cooler than we expected. It was a calm day. The sky was overcast, and we spotted lots of birds. We saw black howler monkeys and listened to their calls. They did not sound happy, but we are not sure why they make these calls. We believe they howl to call for rain, to make other troops aware of their territory, or to show dominance.
After a river tour, we returned to the village at the mouth of Monkey River. We observed the village and some of the crafts for sale before enjoying lunch on the ship.
Our afternoon activity was at Laughing Bird Caye. After brunch and a nice ride to the caye, we took Zodiacs over to the beach for some fun in the sun and our last snorkeling of the trip. It was a fitting end to a beautiful day here in the country of Belize.
