Those aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird awoke to a misty morning. After, stretch class and breakfast, we prepared for the morning activities for Lake Eva. We anchored in Hanus Bay on Baranof Island. Guests had a number of opportunities presented to them for morning activities. There were several options offered, short, medium, and long hikes with our naturalists, even a photography walk. Kayaking and expedition landing craft cruises were offered for those who wanted to see the scenic coastlines and Lake Eva lagoon. Each option gave guests a chance to witness wildlife, streams, Lake Eva, local flora, and the old growth forest of southeast Alaska.
After a very busy morning of exploring Lake Eva, a BBQ lunch was served and everyone had an opportunity to shop at the Global Market. Later in the afternoon, we had a chance to witness underwater footage provided by our Undersea Specialist which showed the creatures that lurk within the waters of Southeast Alaska. The remainder of the afternoon included a visit to Kasnyku Falls followed by an exciting presentation by Dr. Andy Szabo the director of the Alaska Whale Foundation. After evening recap and a delightful dinner we cruised through the breathtaking Red Bluff Bay.
