The DER below is from the expedition to Cuba that began on December 7, 2016.

Few are the authentic days like these that make you rethink everything. Isla de Juventud (Island of Youth), formerly known as Isla de Piñas (Island of Pines), was property of the United States from 1902 to 1925. After Cuba won independence from Spain (with the help of the U.S.), the Platt amendment was written into the constitution, giving the U.S. control over Cuba’s politics as well as granting this island their property. After Cuba’s revolution, many colleges were established to educate thousands of national and international students, meriting a change of title around 1978. While some of our group went out scuba diving, the rest of us went for an amazing tour of the island.
