These two islands are in the western part of the Galapagos, where the hot spot is located. The hot spot is the source of lava that creates all of the islands. Their geology is fresh and active, and these islands are beginning to be colonized by plants and animals from the older islands and the mainland.
In the morning we are at anchor at Punta Vicente Roca where we take Zodiac rides to explore. Hundreds of sea turtles and sea birds like flightless cormorants and fur seals are here. Later we explore the amazing underwater life beneath the waves. In the afternoon, we are at Punta Espinoza on Fernandina for a fantastic walk on fresh lava and the noble inhabitants of it, mostly marine iguanas and sea lions. We return to see Galapagos penguins!
