Early this morning National Geographic Orion explored an area near the southern end of the Gerlache Strait for possible activity, but the ice and the wind did not cooperate, so we headed back north to find shelter from the wind. Again, we went into a bay along Brabrant Island to seek some calmer waters for possible activities, but the visibility decreased to the point that it just was not feasible to do anything but a “ship cruise”! So, back south we went through the Neumayer Channel, between Anvers and Wiencke Islands, until we found a beautiful bay to do an afternoon Zodiac cruise before heading off to Port Lockroy for the evening. There we found perfect conditions to spend the night, entertain guests from Port Lockroy, and enjoy the wonderful show put on by our crew.
