Our Alaskan journey on board National Geographic Quest continued as we started our day anchoring outside an area known as the Hobbit Hole. We spent the morning cruising around the Inian Islands, a highly productive area typically overflowing with marine life. Even though there was some fog shrouding the area, we were not deterred as some clear spots started to open up. Soon we could see everything the Inians had to offer while still keeping the ethereal feeling of cruising through patches of coastal fog.
Exploring George Island and Granite Cove is always a favorite. Some guests enjoyed hikes to the WWII gun while others kayaked in the cove; a Global Explorer’s hike investigated the wonderful world of tide pooling. Once everyone was gathered back on the beach, we had a polar plunge —those that were brave enough to face the cold water ran (or waded) into the ocean. After that, it was time to return to National Geographic Quest for a nice warm meal, prepared by our wonderful head chef Paul and his galley staff.
