Early in the morning, we woke up inside the majestic caldera of Genovesa. Genovesa is considered the island of the birds. We have reached the final full day of our expedition in the Galápagos Islands, and we will spend the day in the archipelago’s northeastern corner.
On board National Geographic Islander II, our first activity took place as we dropped anchor. We started early in the morning with an amazing pre-breakfast kayak along one of the island’s cliffsides. We saw many seabirds nesting and resting on the rocks along the coast.
After breakfast, we visited Darwin Bay, which is full of red-footed boobies. This place has the world’s largest population with around 200,000. Our morning ended with a phenomenal snorkel, and we swam surrounded by plenty of colorful fish and sharks.
After lunch, we went for a second round of kayaking. We had opportunities to take magical pictures of different species of wildlife.
In the afternoon, our excursion took place at Prince Philip’s Steps. We walked through incense trees and the yellow Cordia forest, which led us to a lava field. During our walk, we spotted Galapagos mockingbirds, endemic Nazca boobies with their chicks, and many frigatebirds. We ended our walk as the sun was setting, and we returned to the ship with great memories. It was a fantastic adventure! What a perfect way to end our amazing journey!
