We woke to a clear sky and a warm sun beating down upon us. Though the National Geographic Orion was still well above the Arctic Circle on its way toward mainland Norway, the weather seemed not to notice. Our day of exploration began as we arrived at Fugløya island, where we witnessed hundreds of puffins dashing about the sky. Even higher up upon the cliff were half a dozen white-tailed eagles in search of a meal.
After lunch we docked in Tromsø, the largest city in Europe that is north of the Arctic Circle. In the afternoon we explored the Polar Museum as well as the famous and picturesque Arctic Cathedral.
